Title: The Queen

Pieman - February 24, 2006 01:31 PM (GMT)
Just thought I had to post here and say that I met the Queen, and Prince Phillip today, although I didn't get to talk to them I was only a metre away. However I know of another Cub Leader who did manage to talk to her. I am just so amazed at how real they are, she even had lipstick on her tooth :S
Prince Phillip spoke to some of the ladies in the recruitment department who were stood in front of us and started insulting the ID badges we have as the photos on there get so badly distorted, he was definitely the one who was most 'real' and said exactly what he thought, whereas the Queen was alot more formal, saying the usual 'What a good job you do' etc.

It has definitely inspired me to do more to get my Queen's Scout Award.

Glad to hear you are inspired!

The lipstick on the tooth...did you tell her...maybe she was testing you! :) (Can you post it..insulting the queen...can't you be arrested for that??)

I wouldn't say I was insulting her, merely pointing out that she is actually a normal person who doesn't always have the look of a professionally made-up model ;)

The best I managed was about 3 yards away during a trip to the Cayman Islands many years ago.

i've never been near a member of the royal family, but some of the scouts in my contingent on the jamboree did manage to knock the king of sweden over.

Your not the only one whos meet royalty Pieman.

Did I mention I meet Prince Philip when I collected my Gold D of E award.
I would definately agree with you that Prince Philip is the most real as he does say what he thinks, and hes the funniest of the royal family as well I think.

I've also swam in front of the Queen and Prince Philip, when they came to open our leisure centre near me, a few years ago. So ive seen both of them up close.

I should get to meet the Queen again as Im not far off getting my Queens Scout Award either.

The Queen and Prince Philip came to our town to open a new playpark, and our Scout Group got a limited number of places to go and see the Queen, as we had been given grant money by the fund who were paying for the playpark.
All the Queen said was "Oh, more Scouts" looked at us for about 2 minutes then moved on. How rude. Considering there was a little beaver with us at the time!

I went to Buck house once for a garden party, it was a good few years ago when my brother and sister did DofE gold and were getting their awards presented.

I met Prince Philip and Prince Edward, and loads of celebs like Chris Tarrant, Murrey Walker, etc.

Why was the queen there then? What was she doing?

Telford had a massive celebration of its 40th Birthday and since the queen was there when telford first formed they invited her to come and watch some of the local shows and listen to what telford had to offer :D she only stayed for about 2 hours though B)
