Title: Camping Activities
Description: I need some help!

Smiler - April 7, 2006 06:40 PM (GMT)
Due to our scout leader leaving at the end of the term and no one else in scouts been bothered to organise Scout Camp this year it has fallin on me to organise it. I have a few ideas for some of the activities the scouts can do but I was wondering if any of you had any other ideas?

The ideas I've come up with so far are: Aerial runway, hiking, wide games, assult course, swimming, backwoods cooking, camp gadgets, map work and a ready steady cook competition.

Any other ideas anyoe?

Sounds like you are well on your way.

I assume you know all the rules and regs regarding ariel runways?

Seems to be a very active camp from what you have put, don't forget to include some "quiet" time, you want them not to run out of energy!

How about archery and/or air rifles. Crate stacking is good if your site can do it.

Just get the bumpf from the site you are going to, their 'brochure' or use their internet, and book everything they've got that's within budget. Simple.

P.S. What site are you going to.

Thanks for the ideas everyone. I should have said its a greenfield campsite, Great Yews in Salisbury, so theres no activities on site only a wood to use for activities. We can go off site though.

And yes Eyeball I have looked at the rules and regs reguarding an ariel runway.

if you have transport, there is an excellent country park about 30-45 minutes away near Ringwood...

They have a Go-Ape course (high ropes) and some other stuff - just watch out for the rules, an adult has to accompany every pair of under-16's...

There is also a swimming pool in salisbury and one with rapids and things in Romsey

great Yews is good for hikes etc... they can go for miles.

i am involved with a couple of salisbury troops i could do some research and get back to you.

i also have the phone number for a scout leader who could organise some archery and i could always come up and do some model rocketry and air activities.(playing with explosives is always a favourite with scouts!!!)

As an old scout leader, why not theme your camp, work around the campers/camp cook badge, use the nights away book its quite complete,

Draw a program up for a daily basis, choose a good camp site that caters for your needs.

Involve the PL's in the planning, especially cooking and menus.

Keep a good sense of humour and if in doubt open the Scouters arms early and cry!!!!

this may not work at the location your going to but our scouts loved the water slide we had and the massive wide games we had at night (there was tonnes of grassed area/trees) ;) we also gave them a challenge like each patrol had to put up a tent on their own and the team who came last had to cook dinner  we obvioulsy only done this a few times because it was unfair if a team kept winning :D

but then again the camp sites we go to are in the middle of no where so we have to live without day trips (which can be a bit boring somethings without them) :D
