Title: Scouting 2007
Description: Centenary and all that

Kastor - June 6, 2006 07:33 PM (GMT)
What has everyone got planned for 2007?

Have your Districts, Counties, Areas got their plans together and published them yet?

What do you think of the "Centenary Scarf and Badges" in the latest Scouting Magazine?

Anyone going to WSJ or Brownsea?

Not too sure about the badges, though it could be good, all depends what they provide to back it all up.

As a group currently our only plan is to do the 'Sunrise of Scouting', especially as the Beavers and Cubs will be doing alot of birthday celebrations this year. Currently we are doing some history so not too sure what we will do next year.

Having a big area camp for the 2007 Celebrations.
Neckie and badges in Scouting magazine look pretty interesting, mind you i think that the scarf would look pretty nifty on my campfire blanket.

We are having an all sections district camp the last bank holiday weekend in May 2007 at the Gillingham & Shaftsbury show ground and a County Goose 2007 at Buddens end July through to early August. All sections will visit over the week and every section will be there for the sunrise.

As for the necker and badge our group is buying one for all section members and leaders and we shall wear for the year instead of group necker.

I'm impressed your group's going to buy all the kids one. It was suggested at our last exec and the GSL went very pale.

You are supposed to wear the "starry" neckerchief in addition to your normal one according to scoutbase.

Hi Kastor,

Not up to the GSL. table the motion at the district exec, get it seconded and voted in, its the exec who decide what the money is spent on, and remembers its the kids money.

The joining in necker and the 4 badges cost £7 for the kids and £8 for adults, on sale now at scoutshop web site and yep you are right it's worn with the group necker.

aren't we going to start suffering from badge overload?

we already have the "one world, one promise" badge on most Explorer shirts...

Hi Horus,

The four bages are small and diamond shaped, all go on the point of the necker as you earn them and form a larger diamond.

i understand that... but still...

I don't mind the badges though I think it will work better if they are put on the necker and not the arm.

I think Gilwell are being "sharp" on the pricing though. Normal activity-sized badges are 40p or 50p each. The JIC ones are priced at £1 each with a discount for early purchasing that make them 50p (the normal price).

The neckers are almost twice the price of normal ones, so with over-priced badges as well anyone would think that Gilwell were trying to make money out of us.

I think they are just going to put people off and instead of a Join-in-Centenary we will get an Opt-out-Centenary.

Actually, I've just participated in a County Management Meeting over the weekend, and the sell the County team gave us on the scarves and badges persuaded me that they would be greatly beneficial...

the only problem is the price... my Explorer Units have not got a lot of money to be subsidising, and I don't think it would be fair to "force" the young people to pay for something...

I've got some thinking to do about this... I would really like to see all of my Explorers have the scarves and badges next year, but getting them might be a problem...

We've had another Exec meeting and the good news is we've ordered enough neckers for the YPs to all have one. We're going to ask for a "voluntary" donation of £5 for the necker but make sure the kids get one anyway.

The GSL has had a couple of "roughings up" lately over not spending money so didn't put up much of a fight. It would be nice to give the neckers to the kids, maybe we'll have forgotton about the £5 donation by the time 2007 comes!

Horus Kol - October 20, 2006 07:25 AM (GMT)
yeah, it was suggested by my DC that we ask the District to provide the neckerchiefs... I think I'll bring it up at the next Exec.

The neckers were given out at st. goerges day to explorer scouts when we arrived if we didn't have already. No badges have been handed out tougth we have to buy them

Keith - November 15, 2007 02:16 PM (GMT)
My group bought the neckers for the entire group and now most have earned and been awarded badges.
