I heard about the story on the radio yesterday, and tried to track it down...

interesting - a bit of thought for digestion before making the next term programme plan :)

I agree with this. I just took the Scouts camping and we had them camping in bivouacs and getting their hands dirty gutting fish! They loved it! I'll deffinately be doing more of that sort of activities with the scouts in the future.

Part of the attraction of scouting is being allowed to do things that you wouldn't normally get to do. Getting dirty and running around without adults telling you to not do something every two minutes is part of that.

Our society these days seems to tend very much to remove the individual responsibility for something. It is always someone elses fault. Scouting is one of the few activities left that allows kids a certain amount of danger (excitement) without removing it alltogether and making it boring.
