How many district events does your section do a year?
Kastor - September 14, 2006 04:09 PM (GMT)
At the moment very few, which is one of my gripes with them.
This year we will have/had
- St. Georges Day Parade
- Beavers 20th Birthday Party
- District Carol Service
and that's it. Miserable really

My district has very few events a year. The biggest one this year, was a camp for all the groups in it. Apart from that there is 2 district trophies at Scout level a year and 2 (i think) at cub level.

The only reason I ask is that me and my other leader arent very popular with our ADC for cubs at the moment. He said we didnt do enough things within the district. But we disagree, we do St Georges Day and the annual swimming gala (which we won this year) and we also took part in the county camp. We also do rememberance sunday in the village. But he wasent to happy about us not going to the district carol service this year. Instead of doing the usual thing, going to a church singing a few songs and have some guy talk, we are going to make lantens and meet up with the brownies and go and sing some songs at the old peoples home instead as we think the cubs will get more out of this rather than a district thing. Specially if the last couple of years are to go by!
Also he expects us to pick 4 cubs out of 52 to take part in an archery day. But I think this is unfair as I know all my cubs would want to do the archery, so we're getting someone in to do the archery with all the cubs.

Hi smiler
We actually do not have any district activities except all the parade which i do not think it as a district activitiy. Actually our district request from my troop to organise activitiy for them which is quite sad for a troop to be able to handle it and not the district. So we organise a national level kayaking competition first in the country history. Our HWQ notice the situation and they planning to take steps already.
Talk with you DC about your problems or if better talk with your deputy cheif commissoner if possible. Instead we used to have the same situation but my troop is not popular with HQ but we are very strong in scouting. Situation improve last 2 years as we contribute more to national level. During the time we actually fight back with hq for the things we do not agree. I think if there is district meeting you should talk about this... let others troop leaders heard and know...

This is a list of the events the District try to run, although some of them get cancelled due to low attendance:
Mountain walking - Brecons
Camping Competition - Standing camp
Lightweight Hike/CAmping
ST. Georges day
Five-a-side competition
Hanicamp - Scouts buddy with youngsters from the local special needs schools
I am sure i hav forgotten a couple. We always try to enter a team for all of these events.
