Title: Scout Forum
Keith - February 25, 2007 05:32 PM (GMT)
Just a quick note that it has been brought to my attention that the blatant copy of this forum has been re-launched as some sort of forum hosting site, using our name and created by someone who is a member here.
Please be warned, this is a copy and remember that we are the origonal and best Scout Forum

To be honest the person doing this is wasting his time and money.
and if he has got nothing better to do then that is up to him.
to be fair though, he has atleast put this statyement on his site this time.

| NOTE: This should not be confused with the long established community forums Scout Forum or escouts |

Correction, I put that statement on his site.
How ever is he going to cover the costs as he will need loads of disk space and bandwidth.

I don't want to be at war with you, I like the idea, thats why I offered to help on escouts. The reason why I am not very happy is the fact that your site has the same name, space or no space. All I want you to do is change the name, to avoid any confusion (which one is the community www.scoutforum.org.uk or www.scoutforum.co.uk?) to something different that would not cause any confusion (example names: Scout Host, Scouting Online). I am pleased that the site is not going to be a community. No one would be happy if a website, same or different, appeared on the internet with the same name. I had asked you, when you started it as a community forum to change the name, but you refused then. I don't want a war - we are all scouters, so can we please resolve this once and for all. I hope I don't have to ask for advice from people about what I should consider doing in order to get this sorted out if asking you politely does not work.
Ill ask again: Please change your sites name and domain to something different to avoid any confusion for other people?

Only admins can start new topics in announcements, but anyone can reply. This is so that people can leave comments.

I am looking into changing the name but that costs (this is not because of u asking this is because scoutforum no longer fits what the sites new purpose), if you looked up the laws about domains u will see that there is no law saying that i can no setup a new domain with the same name. Your site started off without a domain and then moved to a domain?
Keith - February 27, 2007 05:23 PM (GMT)
How much would it cost? It might be cheaper to cancel it and then register a new one. Let me know if you are going to change the domain or not. I didn't say there were any laws against the domain - im not talking about any legal issues, just the matter of confusion and being courtious.
We didn't have the domain at first, but we did have the name Scout Forum. We got scoutforum.org.uk registered before you registered scoutforum.co.uk if I remember rightly. :D

:P so i dont think you did?
Yes you had scout forum but we use it without the space. Ok its only a space but this is enough with the layout of the site to make people aware of the difference.
Keith - February 27, 2007 05:57 PM (GMT)
:P
Did you register scoutforum.co.uk for a year? because if so you would be able to cancel it for no cost and register a new one.
akp982 - February 27, 2007 06:17 PM (GMT)

Just been on Scout Help and seen the bit on Partner Sites:
http://www.scouthelp.co.uk/index.php/External_LinksHow do you become a partner site?
akp982 - February 28, 2007 10:08 PM (GMT)
Partner sites is an idea i was about to start working on,
because scouthelp contains information from many sources the sites we have a link with i.e. emailed to ask if we can use there content and they have agreed will become a partner site helping scouthelp with there information.
So basically by agreeing that we can use any information from your site as long as we link the page back.

Good idea.
I suggestion that if you have any content thats on scoutbaseuk, link to their page instead of duplicating it.
akp982 - February 28, 2007 10:53 PM (GMT)
The aim is to have a snipit of there information and then link back so the user can see if thats what they would like to goto read about...
If you look at the knots page all off the PDF's and information is from scouting resources and we have linked each one back.
