Has anyone had to deal with fighting in any of their sections? If so how did you deal with it??

Nothing serious...the occasional hissy fit following with punches. We have a warning system covered by they code of honour they (Scouts) put together (see post in this section "Behaviour".

It has been delt with swiftly and if we find there is an underlying cause then this has to be dealt with.

How did you break it up??

Being a beaver leader I have not encountered any fighting - only bullying and kids being 'too rough'. Its generally been fairly quick to sort it out and we involve the parents.

We have numerous reward systems, so its probibly better to start a topic for that one, so see other topic.

How did I break it up...I am a big chap, witha bellowing voice :) If that didnt work, I would of just pulled them apart.

It the what you do after that. The important part. Get the facts, dish out the punishment and draw a line under it.

Make sure the people involve are aware why it is wrong- I know it sounds funny but I am a peer councilor at my school and often some people don't understand it's wrong-

- a joke to some people isn't to others
- play fighting builds up
- little things like name calling is the worst kind of bullying, it builds up inside people until the person feels hopeless/helpless
- etc.

Punishment wise don't go over the top as you could also turn into the bully.

(fighting is not always to do with bullying however deal with it in the same way as fighting- fighting leads to bullying if not already)
