Our Scout Group is 100 years this year.

Can you suggest ideas to help us celebrate this event?

We have started with a Sleepover with 100 of us sleeping at the Scout HQ.
We have a gang show planned, group summer camp at Camp at Gilwell, Scout Summer camp in China and an Exhibition Day.
We have a banner in the High Street celebrating out 100 years and a flower display is being built for us.
We have a special badge and new necker and a celebratory meal inviting previous members and a rock festival planned.
We have displays at all the town events during the year and Waitrose has sponsored a new kitchen and shower unit.

Group family camp - they are always fun (hard work but worth it)

100 Activities - one for each year of the group - maybe work it towards fundraising/raising the group profile in the area/public arena. - nothing too serious just some fun challanges for all the scouts

100m hop
100 word Troop song
100 bottles recycled etc etc

Throw a party for the whole group, and invite past and present members. Get everyone to bring a candle and put 100 onto the cake. Oldest and youngest current members (yp) of the group blow out candles

Our group is 20 years old this year so we are going to tie this in with our group camp. Each section will be asked to bring 20 of something, ie, jokes, campfire songs, games, activities, etc.

Just a thought, as you are camping in China this year, how about contacting the British Museum and see if you can, as a group, do something themed around the Terracotta Warriors.

With regard to your birthday this year, my group celebrated its own last year. One of the things we did was to bury a time capsule with memories of the Group from the last 100 years. The instructions on the capsule were to look at again in 100 years. The capsule was buried after a party where contributions were asked of those present.

I would also suggest that you get the local press involved in your celebrations. There is nothing like a 100 year celebration to attract some good publicity for your group.

Thanks for your suggestions, I think we will do many of them.
