Hello All,
I am planning a camp in June, The Theme will be Scouting Skills. The Scouts in my Troop are all still quite young, and I wandered if anyone has any ideas for some basic skills activities I could do. So far I am considering
Pioneering
Knot Work
Backwoods Cooking
Tent Pitching
Also when Do you start training your scouts on using a Axe.
I would only train the PLs to use axes at the moment.
If you are camping in tents, then you could look at:
Site layout
Camp hygiene
Cooking in general - many Scouts do not know the basics of cooking having never done it at home. You might find that some of them would like to help with the preparation of meals. This could lead onto the Camp cook badge.
As for the using an axe, I tend to start them as young as possible. We do have the advantage that I can call on the expertise of several "woodsmen" in the area who will talk to the Scouts about the correct usage of axes.
