Title: Adult Uniforms

Hi All,
Just a quick question.
Do Scout Leaders (Adults) have to wear the Scout Leader Uniform (Shirt)? Can anyone show me in the scout policies about this, as my GSL states that I have to wear the Shirt!!
Thanks
Stuart

As far as I know you can wear a polo shirt instead of the shirt, but you should have a shirt for public events, e.g. parades.

The only reference I can find to an adult uniform in POR is:
Rule 10.14: Scout Network / Adult Member's Uniform
1. Items of official uniform:
* stone long sleeve or short sleeve shirt or blouse;
* Group / Explorer Scout Unit / Scout Network / universal / Gilwell / Scout Fellowship scarf (as entitled) or, on formal occasions, a blue tie;
* Scout belt / Explorer Belt and buckle.
2. Items of official uniform for which there is a personal choice:
* navy blue activity trousers;
* smart navy blue trousers;
* smart navy blue skirt.
3. Optional items a Group / Explorer Scout Unit / Scout Network may decide to have as part of its official adult uniform:
* navy blue shorts;
* grey fleece;
* navy blue outer jacket;
* navy blue baseball cap.
4. Optional items for activity dress:
* navy blue sweatshirt;
* stone polo shirt.
However this does not mention adult leaders per se. It refers to adult members uniforms. Your GSL may take this to imply that leaders have to wear the correct uniform.
My opinion is, that as I insist that at Scout meetings unless otherwise instructed, the Scouts have to wear full uniform, then I should be wearing my uniform. Also as I have to attend a number of District, County and National events, I do have a full dress uniform which is kept "pristine" clean for "special" occasions. For example St Georges Day Parade at Windsor Castle. As Keith has already said you should have a dress shirt for any such public facing events.

Im about to order a new uniform as my shirt is getting to small on the arms and the trousers are not the colour they once were. Should I get smart trousers as well as activity trousers? What do people have?

The smart uniform or the activity trousers are not of a suitable quality for every day usage!! In my Troop we only ask that the Scouts and the leaders wear smart trousers, preferably school grey or dark coloured.
As I said in my last post, I do have to have a full "smart" uniform for ceremonial occasions.

I don't like the activity trousers or the smart trousers, and I don't like the way they cost a lot of money.
We don't have rich parents and the uniform already costs £30 so paying more for trousers that aren't even smart is not necessary in my view - especially when their school trousers will do perfectly well and look smarter!
As regards adults well we always wear uniform but on the other hand if it's a choice between leader helping and not wearing uniform or not leader helping I would go for option 1!
