I never went to a county camp as a cub or scout. I remember going to the county sixers camp though.

Just heard from the ACC Cubs for Hereford and Worcester....
They're not doing anything for Cubs for the 90th Birthday.
Makes you wonder why we bother with a County level.
Keith - December 6, 2005 03:01 PM (GMT)
Its an important level between district and area, not many are very good, it depends mainy on the CC.
Kastor - December 6, 2005 03:03 PM (GMT)
We don't have an Area, just County. If its that important you think they'd make more effort.
Keith - December 6, 2005 04:03 PM (GMT)
The proactive and interested leaders don't want to move away from group level, so you generally don't get district or county leaders that would do thinks and organize things. Most people at district/county just leave everything to tick over and don't do anything proactive, as those sort of people are leaders within a group.
Its a huge problem.
Our county have some events planned, but theres nothing at district level. Nothing is perticuly exciting.

Smiler - May 15, 2006 10:08 AM (GMT)
We just had our County Cub Camp at the weekend to celebrate 90 years of cub scouting. There were 1800 cubs there and about 700 leaders.
It was the first county camp I've ever been on and it was quite an experience. There were lots of different activities for the cubs to do, straw caving, rifle shooting, archery, climbing, zip wire, absailing, inflatables, fake wounds, robogeddon (robot wars) and lots of other small activities in each sub camp.
I managed to get a go on a few of the big activities, the straw caving was great fun, never done that before.
I didn't get much sleep though on the Friday night as our cubs didn't get to sleep till 3.30am and then the group next to us had their cubs up at 4am. Which I wasnt to happy about! I only got a couple of hours sleep and I was up at 5am having a shower after been woken up!
Kastor - May 16, 2006 07:02 AM (GMT)
The straw caving sounds good. How's that set up?
Smiler - May 17, 2006 06:23 PM (GMT)
They lay it out in a set space. They have narrow passages that you can crawl through with the odd chamber where they had questions at deadends for a quiz. It is built up on different levels so they use wooden boards as the roof on the ground floor, so they are the floor of the floor above or they put the straw bails over with wood supporting. Hope Im explaining this alright? It looked small from the outside but when you get in there and start crawling about in the narrow passages it seems like its really big. If you ever get the chance to do it I would recommend it.
One thing I dont understand is why some of the cubs were saying it was hard, when its easy for them to crawl through the passages compared to a leader like me!
