It's always great to go back to visit the University particularly if it was a worthwhile experience and the place was wonderful.I think Cambridge just about ticks all those boxes.I am trying to encourage the Explorers to aim a bit higher in the 'University Stakes' as some of them will be looking towards an academic future in 2011.There are some who will be joining the mass exodus to academia at the end of the summer and I have been bending their ears about having some 'master plan' for their futures.Most of my chat 'thank goodness' falls on deaf ears as things are changing so fast that whatever I think (or say) to be honest belongs in a museum or in some very dusty archive.The problem for many young people is in even getting their first job with or without a University Degree.I have been practicing cycling although not sixty miles of course !! All the forms have been signed as the 'doing part' of Scouting these days anything,anywhere,anytime is all about having the right bits of paper (Signed) ! To think back to the time when 'we' the troop all piled into the back of somebodies dad's furniture lorry with all our gear and of we went to camp or to the start of a hike to somewhere or other a couple of lads from the Patrol with just a map.It would not be allowed today and not 'everybody' who wants to go has been allowed to undertake the 'cycle ride' although I did explain that it would be possible for those who found it too much to get the train from several Stations that we pass on the journey.At least they have the week of !! I am back on duty on Sunday Morning and then four lates with the Televised Op's at the Wellcome in London.One of my colleagues asked me if I was going 'Shave My Legs' "I hope he meant for the cycle ride" his specialism is with 'Transgender' Patients ..........!!!!
